Tuning a 12 string guitar when you already know how to tune a guitar

Okay, this is an abbreviated lesson that assumes you know the basics about tuning a guitar and can tune a six string, this will tell you the little bit more you need to know for the other six strings. (If you don't know the basics check this out.)

This is assuming it's a standard strung 12 string there are exceptions. (What if it's not?)
This is standard tuning

Okay, first apply what you know, and you'll be more than half way there. This is all relative to a six string.
1st- E- tuned just like the high E
2nd- E- tuned just like the high E
3rd- B- tuned just like the B
4th- B- tuned just like the B
5th- G- tuned just like the G
6th- g- slightly different
7th- D- tuned just like the D
8th- d- slightly different
9th- A- tuned just like the A
10th- a- slightly different
11th - E- tuned just like the low E
12th- e- slightly different

Yeah, that's right 8 of the strings are tuned the same. For the rest of them, you tune them one octave above the larger sting next to them. So they will be the same note. If you need to hear it, press on the 12th fret on the string you need to hear, and there you go. So if i needed to hear the high A string i would fret the A string and pick it. (only the larger one)

There you go, if you are familiar with tuning a guitar it should be a breeze.
